The Fannie Marchman Garden Club closed its 2019-20 year at its May meeting, during which installation of officers for  2020-21 were installed by outgoing President Angela Thompson, the ceremony authored by Charla Martin.

A salad luncheon was served.

The new officers are President Kim Hughes, 1st VP Rosemarie Kastrau (membership), 2nd VP Sherry Ragsdale (programs), Treasurer Linda Vandagriff and Secretary Charla Martin.

The January program was on winter sowing using plastic milk jugs and seeds to promote early growth. In February members traveled to the NE Texas Community College in Mt. Pleasant for a tour at their ag facility and lunch. The March and April meetings were canceled due to the COVID restrictions.

The Yard of the Month, chaired by Kim Hughes, continues to be active, recognizing local homeowners for their yards.

Through fund raising efforts, members were able to sponsor a scholarship to a Mineola High School graduating senior.

The annual fundraiser, geranium sales, was canceled due to restrictions.

The club adopted a flower bed at the Mineola Civic Center, adjacent to the handicap entrance, with plants to attract and nurture butterflies and hummingbirds.

Donations were also made to the Mineola Historical Museum and the Wood County Arboretum.

Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month at the Mineola Civic Center, 1150 N. Newsom St., from 9.30 a.m.-noon and will resume in September.
