Wood County Genealogy Society received an envelope with 50 family photos found in a home in Yantis.  Two of the pictures were tintype, which meant they were taken in the late 1850s.

The seasoned genealogist couldn’t discard family photos and wanted to find the descendants of this family. There were no details on any of the pictures. The only clue as to the identify of the family was two school pictures with Yantis School Days 1941-42 and 1948-49.  A corresponding yearbook could not be located. There was also a group picture that may have been a company picture or a family reunion.

Ron Schell, administrator of The Wood County Genealogy Research Community Facebook page, posted the pictures. Within a few minutes the response was tremendous, identifying all but five in the group photo.  To see who is in the group picture, go to Wood County Genealogy Research Community Facebook page.

The school picture was identified as James Rogers. His sister, Judy Rogers Newman, identified him. The group picture was identified as Wood County Electric employees around 1950. Some recognized their father, mother, aunt or uncle.

Members met with Newman and her nephew, Jimmy Rogers, (son of James Rogers). Judy was able to identify some of the pictures. Judy recognized her aunt and uncle in the Wood County employee picture.

Jimmy took the pictures to his father, James, and he was able to put names to some of the pictures. James and Judy are the oldest of their family still living.

Members of The Wood County Genealogy Society would like to help with searching  family history  It is exciting to find family members past and present.

The society meets the third Monday at 5 p.m. at the Quitman Public Library, 202 E. Goode St.
