Wood brings home Sulphur Springs trophy

Quitman’s Braleigh Wood won the Sulphur Springs Wildcat Invitational cross county meet Friday as the Quitman girls placed third behind Pittsburg and Paris.

Wood ran a 12:00.1 for the win. Sister McKenna Wood placed 10th in 13:08.4, Cooper Marcee 29th in 14:08.6, Amanita Bautista 33rd in 14:19.8, Katie DeGorostiza 34th in 14:22.3, Carley Plata 44th in 14:47.7 and Madison Jones 46th in 14:52.8.

Dakota Jimenez had the best finish for the fifth-place Quitman boys, 6th in 17:16.7. Christian Plata took 7th in 17:39.

Other Quitman results were Enrique Olvera, 27th in 18:47.5, Saul Flores 47th in 19:55.2, Noah Reid 54th in 20:01.4, Jairo Salinas 61st in 20:22.3 and Juan Ramirez 63rd in 20:34.4.
