Grant to assist with recycle program
The Upper Sabine Valley Solid Waste Management District in Wood County has received a grant through the East Texas Council of Governments for $8,000 to start a household recycle items drop off at the Quitman-Mineola location at 705 CR 2353 in April.
The items planned will be paper, plastic and cardboard which does not need to be sorted.
The district will provide the remaining funding for this program kick-off such as hauling and shared container costs.
The first year will help to determine increasing the service at the other locations.
Prior solid waste grants have provided the start of “Free Dump Days” and earlier recycle programs.
Free Dump Days are planned at each location on rotating Saturdays during April and May 2024. This is the fourth year for the district sponsoring Free Dump Days to the community which is a great opportunity to rid excess trash in the community at no fee for households within the county.
Residents are asked to use the sites closest to their location. For locations for local trash collection (Tuesday-Saturday 8 a.m.-4 p.m.) and respective contact numbers, visit the district’s web-site usvsolidwaste.com.
