Hawkins falls in OT to Union Grove Lions
It was a tough loss for the Hawkins Hawks Friday night at Lowrance Field where Union Grove kept their slate perfect with a 22-14 overtime win. Hawkins led the hard fought battle until the final quarter before Union Grove tied the game sending it to the overtime period. Union Grove is now 6-0 on the year and 1-0 in district while the Hawks fall to 2-3 and 0-1.
Once again Union Grove quarterback Mike Webb made the difference running for 188 yards on 35 carries. Webb also passed for 42 yards, 33 of those yards were on tosses to Gabe Henderson.
The Hawks will host 4-1 Cushing this Friday. Cushing lost their first game in the district opener to Carlisle 69-8. After the Cushing game, the Hawks finish out district play taking on their neighbor and rival Big Sandy Wildcats followed by games against Alto and Carlisle.
Against Cushing the Hawks are facing a team who is 4-1 on the year. The Bearkats were 4-6 last season and returned eight starters on both sides of the ball. Cushing will be trying to put things together after their devastating loss at Carlisle.
