High school bands excel at contest

Mineola High School’s Sound of Swarm added to its reputation for excellence at the recent UIL band sight reading contest.

Mineola High, the 2017 3A UIL state marching champion, earned a UIL sweepstakes award for the sixth consecutive year. The Raider Band from Winnsboro also received a UIL sweepstakes award.

Sweepstakes means the band received a 1 score for the marching contest in the fall and concert/sight reading in the spring.

Quitman received a 1 in sight reading and 2 in concert. Alba-Golden received a 2 in sight reading and a 2 in concert.
