The call has gone out to Hawkins-area churches: Invite your congregation to donate blood to the Carter Blood Center on March 31 at Holly Brook Baptist Church, Hawkins, just after the morning worship service.
The blood center will accept blood from all donors who are qualified. Blood donations can benefit anyone who uses the blood bank.
Holly Brook Baptist has held blood drives since 2012 when a serious need arose for blood to benefit a church member. Since then, the church has scheduled a blood drive on the fifth Sunday of each quarter. Staff from the Carter center draws blood from noon to 3 p.m.
To give blood, a donor must:
• Be at least 16 years of age (with parental approval);
• Be at least one day symptom-free of colds, flu, or not feeling well;
• Weigh a minimum of 110 pounds;
• Not be taking antibiotics and certain other medications. Acceptable medications include vitamins or allergy medicine, blood pressure medicine, thyroid replacement, female hormones, anxiety or high cholesterol medications and many others.
A list of guidelines is on the Carter center website: www.carterbloodcare.org/pdf/DonorGuidelines.pdf
Call the church office for more information, 903-769-2091. The church is located at 3219 S. FM 2869, Hawkins.
