Honey Grove runs away from A-G

The Alba-Golden Panthers were bowled over last Friday at Honey Grove’s Warrior Stadium, 47-0.

The game had a hopeful start for the Panthers as they forced a turnover on downs and a fumble on the first two Honey Grove possessions.

On the Panthers second possession they managed their deepest penetration into Warrior territory on the night – the Honey Grove 25-yard line.

That 11-play effort was highlighted by a nice toss from Easton Campbell to Payton Dickinson who had come out of the backfield to make an over-the-shoulder catch on the run. Two short completions from Campbell to Boogie Trimble also factored into the drive.

The Warrior defense struck back and forced a turnover on downs.

Honey Grove got untracked toward the end of the quarter and scored as time expired on a 20-yard run. They converted the 2-point conversion by using a spread formation and running the snap back up the middle.

That touchdown set loose the Warriors potent offensive talent. They scored on the next four possessions and added a long interception return for a score.

Conversely, the Panthers could not account for the stunting defensive ends of the Warriors nor the quickness and strength of the Honey Grove linebackers.

Honey Grove gave Campbell no time to throw the ball and stuffed all running attempts.

At the halftime break, Alba-Golden was down by five touchdowns.

A quick clock in the second half saw the action come to a close with the home side adding one more score.

On the night, Alba-Golden simply had no answer for the size, quickness and strength of the Honey Grove squad.

The Warriors have a talented team and will have their sights set on perennial district favorite Cooper.

The Panthers will next be hosting the Wolfe City Wolves on Friday. The Wolves were inactive last week after having fallen to Cooper in their opening district game.

Friday night’s game will have a huge impact on determining playoff contenders.
