Jack Walter Patrick 1966-2024

Posted

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our dad, Jack Walter Patrick, passed through the gates of heaven on the morning of March 7, 2024.

After a courageous 5-month battle with cancer, Dad was surrounded by all of his favorite people when he took his last breath here on earth. We’re devastated, but we know this loss isn’t just ours. This loss will affect our community and each person who knew him, because that’s exactly who Dad was. Dad touched the lives of every person in his path. Dad had this way of making every person he met feel seen, loved and appreciated. He was everyone’s best friend.

Jack was born in Tyler to Jackie Ray and Dorothy Ann Patrick. He grew up in Mineola, where he raised cattle with his dad and led his little league baseball team to a state championship. In high school, he joined the rodeo scene and pulled his horse trailer across the country to take titles in tie-down roping. After high school, he went on to Texas A&M, where he was a  part of the university rodeo team and studied agri-business and “campusology” as he liked to call it. He had a lot of fun.

After graduation from A&M, Jack and two of his best friends moved across the country to New Jersey to start their first corporate jobs at American Cyanamid. Realizing this cowboy didn’t belong in the city, he took the first available transfer opening to a small town in Kansas. He always said that move was the best thing he ever did, because that’s where he met the love of his life – our mom. Somehow Dad convinced that lifelong Kansan to move to Texas and start a life together. They landed in Paris and became active members of the local Methodist Church. Soon, they bought land in Honey Grove, where they would go on to build a house and raise their three kids. Mom and Dad celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this past year. We’re so proud of their marriage and know that we, without a doubt, had the best childhood because of them.

The rest of his life, Dad pursued a career doing what he loved. He made his living in ag-sales, which supported his hobby – farming. He loved the outdoors, the farming community, each of his co-workers from Milford Ag, Estes and Helena, and all of his customers. Dad made having a job look like so much fun. He made everything so much fun.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Ann (Cook) Patrick and father, Jackie Ray Patrick. He is survived by his loving wife, Amy Lanell (Keller) Patrick of Honey Grove; his three children, Jack Carter Patrick and wife Shelby Olson Patrick of Buda, Page Keller Patrick of Dallas and Benjamin Walter Patrick of College Station; and his sister, Veta DeAnn Patrick of Mineola.

His pallbearers are Jerad Johnson, Mike Johnson, Steve Merrill, Kyle Milford, Tony Moskal, Craig Moody, Chris Strickland and Zach Whitlock. His honorary pallbearers are Billy Bob Aycock, Mike Dempewolf, Fred Fore, Ricky Hevron, Rodney Patrick, Mark Reece, Randy Roper, Alan Thomas, Tom Thompson and Chuck Vanover.

We will have a service to celebrate Dad’s life at Christian Fellowship Church in Paris on Friday, March 15, 2024. Viewing will take place at 1 p.m. before the service starts at 2 p.m.

In true Jack Patrick fashion, we’re throwing a party in his honor. Please meet us Friday evening after the service to share stories and meet all of the people that loved him. We will have a private family burial after the service and will join you all at Roper’s party barn after.

Dad was the life of the party, even when there wasn’t one – he always brought the atmosphere. We’ll miss him so much.
