QUITMAN-Funeral services for Joseph Merrel Crawford, 94, Quitman were held November 20, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Quitman with Rev. Keefe Cropper officiating

Burial followed at Quitman City Cemetery.

Mr. Crawford died November 17, 2018, in Grand Saline. He was born August 17, 1924 in the Dry Creek Community in Hunt County to Joseph Angelo and Virgie Crawford. He worked for LTV and designed the elevator mock-up for the space shuttle before retiring in 1980. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War 11 as an electrical specialist working on the B-17 ; was a 32nd degree Mason and member of First UMC in Quitman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Emmitt Donald, Marlin Presely and Odess Franklin; and sisters, Elsie Marie, Ercy Marie and Ovela Christine.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ann Crawford of Quitman; three sons, Joseph, Jr., Kenneth Ray of Grand Saline and Jerry Crawford of Lubbock; one daughter, Pamela Burges of Grand Saline; two sisters, Vera Haynes of Rockwall and Edna Thrailkill of Livingston; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and extended family.
