Kiwanis shifts back-to-school project to cards
Instead of the usual Back to School project held each August, the Mineola Kiwanis Club realized that because of COVID-19, supplies needed to be handled in a different way.
After discussions with teachers and administrators, the Kiwanis decided the best way to help with supplies for students would be to give Walmart gift cards to teachers in grades K-5 so they could buy individual school supplies for students who were in need.
Kiwanis President Kevin White presented the $50 gift cards to each grade level lead teacher at Mineola Primary and Elementary, along with Alba-Golden Elementary.
Assisting the Mineola Kiwanis in this effort were Monica Cook and State Farm Insurance, First United Methodist Church, Walmart, Becky Moore, Kevin White, Roy and Beth Shockey, Mineola Community Bank and City National Bank.
