Lady Bulldogs dispatch Winona in three games

The Quitman Lady Bulldogs had little trouble dispatching the Winona Lady Wildcats at home Friday, winning 25-10, 25-12, 25-5.

From the first point, Quitman controlled the match, starting with a block by Autumn Cason and continuing with 10 straight points on the serve of Kallie Hoover. Hoover went on to serve 23 times, with only an errant strike allowing the first Winona point.

That set a trend, with just 16 of the Lady Wildcats’ 27 points generated on offense, totaling three earned points in the first set for Winona, four in the second and four in the third.

Quitman locked in for that final frame, giving away just a single point on a hitting error.

Cason had a stretch of 12 points on serve, including two aces to put the Lady Wildcats away. Kaylin Sapp contributed two aces on the night.

The 20th point was perhaps the most entertaining of the evening. Quitman’s first hit went back, up and into the basketball hoop, which was enough to elicit an amused cheer. Addison Marcee then managed to get the volleyball back in play, Ashley Davis sent it over the net and Winona was unable to return it.

Quitman hosted Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill Tuesday and will conclude its brief home-stretch Friday against Mineola.
