Lady Bulldogs put together big wins over Winona and Harmony

The Quitman Lady Bulldogs were on the prowl last week and scored big, winning games against Winona and Harmony.

Senior Kennedi Elmore blazed the way to victory, pitching nine strikeouts while getting four hits and five RBI against Winona and eight strikeouts, two hits and three more RBI against Harmony on Saturday.

At Winona Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs scored 14 runs in the top of the first inning.

Addison Marcee stole home while Ashley Davis was at bat. Davis walked, advancing Hannah Holland who had gotten on base with a single to the pitcher. Elmore hit a single to right field scoring both runners. Larkin Spears doubled to score two more runs. Spears stole home plate. Kylie Harris also stole home and Allie Berry scored when Davis was hit by a pitch. Marcee stole home while Elmore was at bat. Elmore hit a double to centerfield, scoring two more runs. Kori Hammond also cleared the bases on a double fly ball to left field bringing the score to 14-0. 

The Bulldogs scored five more runs in the second inning to lead 19-0.

Hannah Holland brought in a run when she hit a double on a bunt to the pitcher. Elmore batted in a run with a single to second base and Hammond scored three runs with a double to centerfield. The Bulldogs scored their final run in the fourth inning when Spears hit a double to third base, scoring Chloe Jones. 

The Bulldogs played the Harmony Eagles on Saturday. 

Holland started things off with a bunt to third base scoring Marcee. Davis followed with a single, scoring Holland. Elmore hit a double to score Davis. Peyton Kruckner singled to shortstop, scoring Elmore. Spears scored after Harris grounded out to second. The Bulldogs ended the inning up 5-0. 

The Bulldogs continued to dominate in the second inning. Kruckner hit a hard ground ball to centerfield clearing the bases for three runs. Berry brought Kruckner home when she hit another grounder to centerfield. Marcee hit a single scoring Hammond. Holland scored Marcee and Berry with a hit to right field. Elmore hit a line drive to left field scoring Davis and Holland, then Spears brought Elmore home with a double to left field. The Bulldogs ended the inning up 15-0.

Harmony managed to score a run in the third inning but couldn’t keep pace with the Bulldogs. The game was called in the fifth inning with the Bulldogs winning 15-1.

Head Coach Allison Head said, “I challenged the girls to come out and hit the ball this past week. They hit the ball well all of preseason and had a tough start to district, but they’re starting to put the pieces back together and get into their groove.”
