Lady Bulldogs split contests
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs went 1-1 in district play last week, defeating Winnsboro and falling to Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill.
In Friday’s game against Winnsboro at home, Quitman’s Kennedi Elmore dominated on the mound. She went seven innings, striking out 10 Lady Raiders and giving up just three hits and not allowing a base on balls.
Winnsboro took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Quitman came back to score four in the second inning and one in the third for a 5-2 lead. Quitman had a 6-3 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning when they scored four more runs to put the game away at 10-3.
Ashley Davis had a triple to highlight second inning scoring. Davis and Lindsey Hornaday had multiple hits to lead the eight-hit attack.
The Quitman defense sparkled, committing no errors, and Winnsboro only had one for the game.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Bulldogs fell to Chapel Hill 10-1. It was a 4-1 game until the top of the sixth inning when Chapel Hill scored six runs. Quitman was able to manage five hits against the Lady Devils.
