Lady Jackets fall to district leader Edgewood
The Lady Jackets wound up their first round of district play with a straight set loss to the neighboring Edgewood squad last Friday. Despite the loss, the Lady Jackets continued to display improved play in a number of areas especially play at the net.
Of specific note Tahjae Black distinguished herself with her hustle and court presence, while Brittany Pickle, Sabria Dean, Kelsey Brewington and Tiara Stephens all distinguished themselves in blocking and net play. Fighting through some line-up changes last Friday, the Lady Jackets just could not maintain the consistency of play needed to match a talented Edgewood team.
Coach VanCleave noted the bye date on Tuesday and stated, “We are hoping to get everyone healthy and be ready to fight our way through the second round.”
With the varsity football bye week, it is an excellent opportunity to come out and see the Lady Jackets in action. The second round of district play begins at home on Friday, Oct. 5 against a strong Alba-Golden team. Varsity action will commence at 4 pm.
