Lady Panthers remain unbeaten

If there was an ignition point for the Alba-Golden Lady Panthers last Friday as they battled the visiting Boles Lady Hornets, it came with 4:38 on the clock before halftime. The score stood 15-14 when Kayleigh Logan calmly lined up a 3-pointer.

The shot was perfect and it initiated a 13-point run by the Lady Panthers, who kept their perfect mark in district alive with a 48-29 win.

Before Logan‘s 3-pointer, the game was a close affair. Alba-Golden applied their patented press and generated shots from all over the floor. Initially, Boles was able to break the press with passes down the middle of the floor, and they scored by exploiting the lane.

The early going was a scratch with neither side dominating.

However, after Logan’s score, the points came in a frenzy for the Lady Panthers. A Joecey Lewers jump-shot, offensive rebound put-backs by Alexis Wilmut and Payzlee Fitzgerald, another inside score by Wilmut on a nice assist from Kalli Trimble and an offensive rebound conversion by Lainey Teel just before the halftime buzzer combined to break the game open.

Alba-Golden demonstrated some of its best off-the-ball movement seen yet this season. Eight Lady Panthers contributed points; all contributed great hustle and awareness.

Kalli Trimble put together one of her best games of the season. She led Alba-Golden scorers with 12 points and seemed to make all the correct reads as a playmaker.

Several passages of play were noteworthy. A long possession in the offensive zone midway through the third quarter featured three offensive rebounds and a loose-ball scramble which Alba-Golden recovered.

An artistic dish off of a drive by Lewers – which resulted in an Erin Langston score – and a backdoor basket on a pass from Langston to Logan  were also game highlights. Lainey Teel put in strong inside play and came up with an emphatic block to keep the team energized.

This squad is playing some cohesive and efficient basketball.

Alba-Golden improved to 8-0 in district play along with a 46-35 win over Como-Pickton last Wednesday.

The win secured a playoff spot, and the district title could come down to the final game at home against 7-1 Cooper.

After traveling to Cumby Tuesday, the Lady Panthers host Fruitvale Friday and welcome former Lady Panther coach Brad Gibson back to the Panther gymnasium. Jan. 30 is a bye for the Lady Panthers.
