Lady Panthers take pair of wins
The Alba-Golden Lady Panthers kept their district title hopes alive with two strong defensive performances in wins over Grand Saline and Quitman last week.
The Lady Panthers got 20 points and five rebounds from Grace Bizzell in Friday’s 52-21 win over Grand Saline. The Lady Panther pressing defense kept the Lady Indians at bay as they raced to a 28-12 first half advantage. The Lady Panthers came out strong in the third quarter going on a 20-8 run to make it a 48-20 game going into the final frame.
Other scoring came from Kalli Wright with eight points, while Ginny Carson added six and six rebounds. Macie Pendergrass also had six points and four rebounds with Sammi Rambsel and Ashlyn Rogers each netting five points and Destiny Baker adding two.
Against Quitman, Carson led the way in the 40-22 win with 15 points and eight rebounds. The lady Panthers led 9-6 after one quarter and went to intermission with a 21-10 lead. Bizzell had 14 points, Rogers six, Rambsel three and Wright two.
The Lady Panthers have a big game at Edgewood Tuesday followed by a Friday night home contest against Rains.
