Local DAR chapter sends gifts to the troops

“As we prepare to enjoy the holidays, our hearts go out to you because we know being away from home is difficult and especially so during the holidays.

What you are doing for us is a great sacrifice that we remember and appreciate. If it weren’t for service people like you, we wouldn’t have the freedoms we have in our country. Thank you for leaving your family and homeland to protect our way of life.

We are proud of you and will never forget your dedication. We wish you good health and a safe return to your home.” – Susan Few and the members of the Elizabeth Denton English Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Unfortunately, at times this is the sacrifice which must be paid for the honor and recognition of freedom. Let us celebrate and remember those who choose to face this cost. The NSDAR chapter had its annual Christmas party and was able to send more than two dozen care packages to local East Texas military service members deployed overseas.

NSDAR is a nationally known nonprofit, nonpolitical, volunteer service organization for women that promotes historic preservation, education, and patriotism. The DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organization.

DAR members are committed to volunteer service having served more than 12.5 million hours in communities throughout the world during the past three years. The Elizabeth Denton English Chapter is charted in Mineola, but members are welcome from all areas. Any woman is eligible for membership if she is at least 18 years old and can prove lineal bloodline descent from a man or woman who aided the cause of American Independence.
