QUITMAN – Funeral service for Marie Phillips of Quitman was scheduled for Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, at Lowe Funeral Home with Brother Fred Morrow officiating. Graveside services were to follow at Concord Cemetery. The family received friends Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Viria Marie Phillips was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Bettie, Texas, to Cecil and Della (Goodson) Moore. In Wood County on Sept. 11, 1946, she married the love of her life, George Thomas Phillips. The two were married for 19 years at the time of his passing in 1965. Marie was a homemaker and housewife, raising their nine children. She lived in Quitman all of her life and enjoyed fishing on Lake Winnsboro and volunteering for Meals on Wheels.

Marie passed away in Tyler Tuesday morning, October 16, 2018, at the age of 91.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Della Moore, and her husband, George Thomas Phillips.

Left to cherish her memory are her seven sons, Gordon Phillips of Quitman, Jimmie Phillips and wife Julie of Tacoma, Washington, Jesse Phillips of Quitman, Bennie Phillips of Tennessee, Royce Phillips and wife Tiffney of Quitman, Robert Phillips and wife Melanie of Quitman, and Eddie Phillips of Quitman; two daughters, Kathey Harris of Quitman and Dorothy Clendenning and husband Alan of Indiana; three sisters, Mary Ruth Loftis of Gilmer, Matalou Caffey of Longview, and Claudine Boren of Pittsburg; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
