Christopher Mason, Quitman ISD new assistant superintendent, will add his knowledge and expertise to the administration team for the 2019-20 school year.

Mason comes to QISD from Leonard ISD, where he served as the high school principal for three years. He was awarded a two-year contract in April. Angela Brown, the former assistant superintendent, resigned at the end of last school year to become the dual credit English teacher.

This school year will be Mason’s 16th as an educator. He earned his bachelor of science in criminal justice from Tarleton State University and began teaching in 2004.

“I taught and coached for 10 years before getting into administration. I have had the privilege of teaching history from sixth through 12th grade,” Mason said.

He obtained a master’s degree in education administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2014. He received a superintendent certificate from the University of Texas at Tyler in 2016. Mason was a junior high and a high school principal.

Mason said coming to Quitman was an easy decision for him.

“I have been familiar with Quitman for many years and always knew it as a good community and area,” he said. “We have family close to the area in Jacksonville and Palestine.”

He hopes to get to know the faculty and build relationships as he begins his first year.

“My goals the first year here in Quitman are to simply continue to support the wonderful teachers and staff of Quitman ISD and build lasting relationships in the school and community,” Mason said. “My family and I will be moving to Quitman and are looking forward to putting down roots.”

Mason is also looking forward to collaborating with Superintendent Rhonda Turner and QISD board of trustees.

“I am excited to be joining Mrs. Turner and the Board of Trustees, who have been working hard on their mission to educate ‘Every child, Every chance, Every day,’” he said. “Quitman ISD is an excellent school district that is doing wonderful things for our students. I am very happy to be a new Bulldog!”
