Mercy Mall Quitman searching for a new home
Mercy Mall Quitman, a non-profit organization that supplies food for the needy, has to find a new headquarters by the beginning of June.
The building on Main Street has sold to new owners. To continue serving the community, Mercy Mall Executive Director Janet Toto says they must find a space as soon as possible.
Mercy Mall partnered with East Texas Food Bank in 2014 and serves over 100 East Texas families every week. Food is distributed every Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon and every second Friday from 9:30 a.m.-noon.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Mercy Mall has received help from the Texas Army National Guard to distribute emergency food boxes and will do it again May 15 and 29.
Toto says they’re looking for something basic and simple to work out of, with space for their freezers, refrigerators and shelves.
