Cold weather means hot chili, and the Mineola Kiwanis has just what you need. Saturday, Feb. 23 is the 10th annual Mineola Kiwanis Chili Cook-off. It will be at First United Methodist Church’s Ministries Center on North Newsome in Mineola from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Tickets are available from Kiwanis members for $5 or may be purchased at the door. The Country Classics will entertain.
Celebrity judges will select the “Best Tasting” chili and the “Best Looking Booth,” while the audience will select the “People’s Choice Award.”
Desserts will be sold for $1 or may be purchased by the whole cake or pie.
A live dessert auction, along with a silent auction were added to raise funds for the Kiwanis International worldwide project called Eliminate, which saves the lives of mothers and babies from death by tetanus.
The goal for the Mineola Kiwanis is $52,500 for this effort, and death from tetanus remains in only 13 countries. This goal will hopefully save over 29,000 lives.
