Mineola Memorial Library Notes
The holidays are fast approaching. We have a variety of cookbooks and craft books to help with the upcoming activities. We have lots of other books to just read and travel to imaginary places and have adventures in your imagination.
We will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22. We will re-open on Friday, Nov. 23 if you need a quiet place to go to regroup during Black Friday shopping.
In my last column, I wrote of the new fine limit policy. If you owe $25 or more in fines, you will not be allowed to check out material until you pay down the fine.
From now until Dec. 12, the Mineola Memorial Library will be accepting new book donations for children to receive through Caring and Sharing. The books need to be new. They are for children ages birth to teens. We will accept new board books, new easy readers, and new chapter books. We are doing this to put books in the hands of children. If you owe a fine, we will reduce it by $5 per new book that you donate.
Friends of the Library will meet on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. The guest speaker will be Galand Nuchols, and her author website is www.galandnuchols.com if you want to know more about her ahead of time. She will share about her life as an author and the process of writing and getting published. After the speaker there will be refreshments, followed by a meeting to discuss upcoming activities for the Friends group.
The Library Book Club will meet on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. to discuss BlueBird, BlueBird by Attica Locke. This book is set in East Texas. The author is from the Houston area and now lives in California. Read the book. See if you recognize anything. Join us for the discussion!
East Texas Library Friends Book Club will meet at Oak Ridge Marina/Restaurant to discuss The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman. Lunch is on your own at 1 p.m., and the book discussion will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10.
Library programs will continue throughout November. The exception will be the week of Thanksgiving. No programs will occur prior to Thanksgiving Day.
The Library received a donation of a LED flat screen TV for use with our programs. We appreciate this donation from our anonymous friend.
