Jan. 9

10:43 a.m. A resident on Front Street reported being scammed by a caller in reference to her Social Security information. The  caller requested money cards to be purchased from Walmart. After the cards were purchased, the scammer asked for the pins on the cards. The scammer advised the victim she would get her Social Security information restored if the money was sent.

3:24 p.m. A resident on Meredith St. reported a scammer using profane language. The resident was advised to block the number and to get on the do not call list.

4:13 p.m. Two wallets were mailed to the police department as found property.

11:46 p.m. An officer assisted a Wood County Deputy on a traffic stop on E. Broad St.

Jan. 10

5:01 a.m. A disturbance was reported on Landers St. by a male subject. When the officer arrived, both parties had minor injuries. The female stated she was defending herself. Neither party wished to file charges, and both signed affidavits of non-prosecution. A family violence report was completed.

6:31 p.m. A hit and run accident was reported in the 300 block of Greenville Ave. The complainant reported she was northbound on Greenville when a vehicle pulling out of Wood Memorial Nursing home hit her. The complainant drove to the police department and asked to be checked by EMS. The hit and run driver of a red Mitsubishi headed southbound on Pacific St.

8:54 p.m. A large limb was reported in the roadway on Mimosa St. An officer cleared the roadway.

10:32 p.m. EMS requested an officer assist with a medical call at a residence on McDaniel St. Officers assisted EMS to check on the resident.

Jan. 11

5:34 a.m. An officer responded to the SWEPCO substation when a transformer blew at their yard. SWEPCO was busy on other outages and reported they did not have a response time.

11:48 a.m. An officer assisted EMS on a medical call on McDaniel St.

2:01 p.m. A call was received in reference to a motorist blocking traffic in the 100 block of E. Broad St. The vehicle was moved out of the roadway.

3:38 p.m. A theft was reported at Walmart by an off-duty Walmart employee. The employee paid for her merchandise through the self-checkout and requested cash back. The employee forgot the cash when leaving. When the employee returned, the cash was gone. Surveillance video showed a female behind the employee taking the cash. A theft report was filed and is under investigation.

Jan. 12

9:09 a.m. A welfare concern was reported in reference to two people sleeping in a vehicle in front of a business on N. Pacific St. An officer determined the female was wanted for a parole violation for possession of controlled substance in a correctional facility. Ashley Nichole Wall, 30, Yantis, was arrested for the parole violation and an on-site charge of possession of a controlled substance under 1 gram for possession of meth during a search.

2:32 p.m. An officer assisted EMS on a medical call on McDaniel St.

3:25 p.m. A disturbance was reported at an apartment on Bromberg St. When the officer arrived, the disturbance was determined to be a verbal altercation between the boyfriend and ex-girlfriend. The complainant was attempting to get his girlfriend to leave and she was refusing. The two were separated for the night and the boyfriend requested she be trespassed from his apartment. The ex-girlfriend was served a criminal trespass warning and the boyfriend was served a trespass warning for her residence in the county.

5:19 p.m. A woman filed a harassment report in reference to her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend sending inappropriate photos.

6:23 p.m. A resident on Molly St. reported receiving packages that did not belong to him. An officer took the packages and notified the owner of the packages on Sue Lane. The resident on Sue Lane was not at home at the time and requested the packages to be held at the police department. The packages were claimed by the owner later in the evening.

Jan. 13

4:24 p.m. Auriel Sloan, 29, Mineola, was arrested on Karen Lane for a parole violation. Brandi Leigh Love, 33, of Mineola was arrested for harboring a fugitive from justice. Love was asked about the fugitive and told officers he was not there. Officers were in the back yard when Sloan walked out of the residence.

5:28 p.m. Officers were dispatched to the local Walmart in reference to a theft. Michael McCormick, 19, of Quitman was arrested for theft over $100<$750.

7:05 p.m. Dispatch received a call that a female had been hit by a vehicle in the parking lot of Brookshire’s. Officers responded to the scene to find the female being checked by EMS for injuries. The driver of the vehicle stopped immediately and assisted the victim. Alexis Whiddon, 25, of Quitman was transported to a Tyler hospital for further medical evaluation.

Jan. 14

10:08 a.m. A man on W. Patten reported that he let a known person borrow his vehicle to go to a new job. The man requested his vehicle back only to find that it had been impounded by Tyler PD. The owner of the vehicle was referred to the justice of the peace due to the incident being a civil matter. 

Jan. 15

6:06 a.m. A business on E. Broad was concerned when a car left their parking lot and stopped in the middle of the roadway, becoming a traffic hazard. The clerk went out to check on the driver, finding them asleep. The driver awoke and sped away eastbound. Information was relayed to Wood County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was not found. 

6:26 a.m.  A suspicious person was reported at the car wash on N. Pacific. A man was seen with screwdrivers near the vacuums. An officer spoke with the man who was attempting to get coins that had fallen under the machine. No damage to vacuums was observed.

8:06 a.m. Investigators were called to the Civic Center for a welfare concern. They talked with a man who was upset and was having family issues. 

9:04 a.m. A Beats brand case containing cards and money was located on E. Broad. The property was turned into the police department. The owner was located and the case was returned. 

11:00 a.m. A woman on W. Buchanan reported someone had entered her vehicle and rummaged through the contents. This offense is believed to have occurred sometime during the nighttime hours.  

3:12 p.m. A Mineola Police Department investigator was asked to check the welfare of a mother and child by the State of California CPS. The woman was contacted, and she and the child in question came to the police department. Everything was found to be OK. 

8:48  p.m. A man on Landers St. reported a fraud when he was the victim of a phone scam. The man had sent a large sum of money to what he believed to be the Social Security Administration Office. A report has been filed and this case is under investigation.
