Mineola tops Grapeland in three games
The Mineola Lady Jackets appear to be nearing district form, as they took care of the visiting Grapeland Sandiettes in straight sets last Tuesday.
The 2023 Lady Jackets are demonstrating a high level of team cohesion and have their sights set high on this year’s campaign.
Mineola was challenged twice in the initial set of the Grapeland match. They weathered a five-point Sandiette run at mid-set and a four-point run late in the set. The team did not waiver; they just kept playing and fought through the challenges.
A Kali Chrietzberg kill off of a Grapeland overpass helped to cement the first set win, 25-20.
The direction from Mineola head coach TaShara Stephens between sets was clear: make every point count.
The Lady Jackets were up to the task. They dominated action in sets two and three by margins of 25-10 and 25-8.
Their play was characterized by excellent activity and floor coverage, strong attacks (especially with Mahayla McMahon from the left wing), amazingly consistent setting from Trinadee Jackson and a skilled service game.
Mineola begins district play Friday at Mt. Vernon. The match commences at 4:30 p.m.
