The city of Mineola and the Mineola school district will hold elections on Saturday, May 4.

The filing deadline passed on Friday, and one city council seat will be contested along with one school board position.

Former city council member Polly Jones has filed to run in Ward One.

The incumbent, Sue Jones, initially filed for reelection, but on Tuesday she withdrew her application.

Ward Two will have a new council member. Jimmy Alexander filed for the post, and Eric Carrington did not seek reelection.

In Ward Three, Crystal Arcand has filed to run as well as the incumbent, Cassandra Sampson.

The two-year unexpired term on the Mineola School Board drew two candidates, Lina Ortega and Tony Forsyth.

Jeffrey White and Jay McGough filed for the two three-year terms. McGough is the incumbent, after being reelected to the board last year. The other seat was vacated when Robbie Ballard moved from the district.

The unexpired term was created by the death of John Abbott last year. Todd Morgan was appointed to fill the position until the election and chose not to run again.

The city of Hawkins will have a new mayor and council member and will hold an election for one council seat.

Deb Rushing filed for the vacant mayor’s post, and Meredith Hancock is unopposed for council Place One.

For Place Three, incumbent James Eric Mayor filed along with Norma Oglesby.

Mayor Susan Hubbard had previously resigned, and Charles Richoz did not seek reelection to Place One

Alba-Golden, Hawkins, Quitman and Yantis ISDs will not have to hold elections.

AGISD incumbents Terry Clark and Mike Ragsdale were the only filers for two posts.

Hawkins ISD’s three incumbents were also the only ones to file: Blake Warren, Danny Smith and Scott McKamie.

Three persons filed for the three Yantis ISD seats, Jennifer McKeever and incumbents Tyra Kenemore and Ashly Vivion. Carrie Hurley did not seek reelection. McKeever previously served on the board, losing her seat a year ago by one vote.

Shauna Attaway and incumbents Michael Hipp and Royce Patterson have filed for the Quitman board’s three seats. Jeremy Smith did not seek reelection.

Alba, Quitman and Yantis won’t hold city council elections.

The three Alba incumbents filed, Tammy Kirkpatrick, Bob Kraemer and Tim Westervelt.

Yantis City Council incumbents Gerald Schmidt, Steve Judkins and Ken Sharp are unopposed for reelection.

Quitman council incumbents Steve Glenn, Todd Wright and Jack Robinson drew no opposition.

Council terms are for two years and school board terms are three years.
