MISD adds in-room cubbies at new school
Mineola School Board approved a change order Monday to have cabinets and cubbies built inside new classrooms at the primary school under construction on NE Loop 564.
While the addition will cost $143,140 to be taken from the owner’s contingency, Superintendent Cody Mize announced that construction management firm Jackson Construction had indicated that about $600,000 has been saved on the project thus far.
Furniture bids for the school are expected sometime next week and would be about the last major item that could impact the school’s overall cost.
Mize said the savings will help the district with its plans to remodel the elementary school into a high school career and technical education center.
Following a closed session, the board extended Mize’s contract for another year though the 2026-27 school year.
The board also approved a bid for $38,500 to replace an air conditioner at the middle school.
The board approved its requests to the Meredith Foundation, with the four priorities as $50,000 for scholarships, $100,000 for a walking trail and basketball court at the new school playground, $73,600 to renovate and wrap the band equipment trailer and $100,000 to go toward lighting the parking lot at the middle/primary campus.
