Newsom guest of county group

Dr. James Newsom will be the guest speaker at the July 17 Wood County Genecology Society in the community room at Quitman Public Library at 5 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.  

Newsom’s topic will be “Beginnings of the Spanish American War.” As a history professor at University of Texas Tyler, his knowledge is extensive, and he is very entertaining.

Newsom is a senior lecturer in history and political science at UT-Tyler and the recipient of the fellow of the University of Texas at Tyler Academy of Distinguished Teachers. He has a B.A. from The University at Tyler, M.A. (history) The University of Texas at Tyler; M.A. (political science), University of Texas at Tyler; and Ph.D., Texas Christian University.  

Newsom is a frequent speaker at local heritage and civic groups, including The Mayflower Society, Huguenot Society, The Sons of the American Revolution, The Daughters of the American Revolution and The War of 1812 Society.
