Pilot Club honored with proclamation

Mayor Kevin White has signed a proclamation for Mineola Pilot President Christine Spofford declaring Oct. 18-24 as Pilot International Founders Week.

Pilot International was founded in Macon, Ga. in October 1921. The Mineola Pilot Club was chartered by the Pilot Club of Tyler in May 1965, celebrating 55 years of friendship and service to the area.

At the Pilot International Convention and Leadership Conference in Atlanta in July 2021, Pilot members from around the world will celebrate their 100th birthday.

Pilot is dedicated to service in areas of brain safety and health and supporting those who care for others.

In Wood County there are Pilot organizations in Mineola, Quitman and Winnsboro. The three clubs share work with the sheriff’s deartment on Project Lifesaver, which offers transmitters for clients with brain injuries which cause them to wander. The clubs also provide BrainMinders for children using puppets to promote brain health.
