Power lifters advance to state meet

The Quitman High School girls power lifting team placed 2nd place at regional last week and is sending four girls to the state meet.

Kylee Harris is the regional champion, in the 132-pound class with lifts totaling 715 lbs.

She recorded 260 pounds in the squat, 170 in the bench press and 285 in the dead lift.

Placing second were Cooper Marcee in the 97-pound class with 535 pounds, Addison Marcee in the 114-pound class with 700 pounds and Abby Day in the 198-pound class 955 pounds.

The Quitman team earned 28 points with a first place and three seconds from the state qualifiers.

Only Elkhart at 43 scored more and had five first place lifters.

Mineola’s Jaylee Never placed second in the 148 class with lifts of 770 pounds to earn a spot in the state meet, and Zion Olajide was second in the 220 class with 855 pounds to advance.

Others placing for Quitman were Kayleigh Smith, 6th in the 105 class with 480 pounds; Carly Plata, 8th in the 114 class with 550 pounds; Maliah Lankford, 4th in the 123 class with 695 pounds; Yoselin Ramirez, 15th in the 123 class with 500 pounds; Isabella Banda, 5th in the 132 class with 620 pounds; Kimberly Reyes, 8th in the 132 class with 600 pounds; Lynee Taylor, 14th in the 165 class with 575 pounds; Maycie Miller, 3rd in the 181 class with 705 pounds; Jessica Lacy, 10th in the 220 class with 545 pounds; and Julie Lacy, 6th in the 242-plus class with 510 pounds.

Competing for Mineola, Addyson Blackwell placed 4th in the 114 class with 605 pounds; Avery Geremonte 12th in the 114 class with 535 pounds; Ellie Littlefield, 7th in the 123 class with 595 pounds, Kylee McVey, 8th in the 123 class with 585 pounds; Sarah Smith, 4th in the 148 class with 750 pounds; Mariana Delgadilloi, 9th in the 148 class with 665 pounds; Kenzi Banks, 7th in the 181 class with 730 pounds; and Nadia Martinez, 6th in the 242-plus class with 600 pounds.

The team’s 14 points was good for 7th place.

Mineola competes with large 3A schools and Quitman with small 3A schools.

In the 2A meet, Kirstin Fish placed 3rd in the 97-pound class with 385 pounds, and Ava Nivison was 5th in the 181 class with 780 pounds for Alba-Golden.

The state meet is March 14 in Frisco for Mineola and Quitman.
