Power lifters qualify for state meet with regional performances

Quitman power lifters placed fourth and Mineola eighth in last week’s regional meet at Arp.

Quitman will send three lifters to the state meet and Mineola one.

Alba-Golden also had one state qualifier.

Jayden Markham and Carlos Flores of Quitman took the top two spots in the 123-pound class to advance to state.

Markham won his class with lifts totaling 1,155 pounds, including 445 in the squat, 285 bench press and 425 dead lift.

Flores had three lifts totaling 1,100 pounds.

Quitman’s Devin Robertson qualified for state as runner-up in the 181-pound class with lifts totaling 1,370 pounds.

Moses Medellin of Mineola won the 181-pound class with 1,430 pounds including 525 pounds in the squat, 380 pound bench press and 525 pounds in the deadlift.

Layton Williams of Alba-Golden qualified with a runner-up finish in the 275-pound class with 1,550 pounds including 625 squat, 350 bench press and 575 dead lift.

Also for Qutman, Cain Ingram placed sixth in the 132 class with 905 pounds and Bryce Miller seventh with 885 pounds.

Hayden Breding placed 8th in the 148 class with 1,010 pounds.

Ben Boisclair was 7th in the 165 class with 1,155 pounds.

Cade Papez was 8th in the 198-pound class with 1,185 pounds.

Eli Hearn was fourth in the super heavy weight class  at 1,140 pounds.

For Mineola, Parker Harris was fourth in the 148-pound class with 1,110 pounds.

Bryson Myers placed fifth in the 242-pound class with 1,360 pounds.

Juan Cervantes placed fourth in the 308-pound class with 1,415 pounds.

The state meet is March 22-23 in Abilene.
