Precinct Two Constable’s Report

Posted

I continue to work with the school district and build strong relationships with the kids and young adults in an attempt to mentor them and provide guidance where necessary.

I have been asked to conduct training on several campuses to better prepare the teachers to protect their students.

I have participated in several school forums, safety briefs, and safety audits. I have been invited to the Winnsboro ISD, Quitman ISD, Alba-Golden ISD and the Mineola ISD campuses to conduct K9 searches and meet with administrators.

This month we were invited to the Yantis ISD campus to do a K9 search and I worked with the Yantis ISD school police and the Wood County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office.

The Explorer Program continues to grow, and we are making a presence at the school campuses. We are inviting young adults ages 14-21 to participate if they have interests in law enforcement. We have meetings on the first Friday of each month and any questions can be directed to ksmith@mywoodcounty.com. Mineola PD continues to be an active supporter of the program.

We schedule time each morning to train K9 Juma and participate in K9 training from around East Texas. Cooperation among several agencies led to the sharing of information resulting in arrests in conjunction with Mineola PD, Quitman PD and agencies outside of Wood County. As we all know, criminals do not stop at city limits or county lines. Having a strong working relationship with other agencies is paramount.

We are providing enhanced patrol at Lake Brenda, around Lake Holbrook and at several other subdivisions in the precinct. The Mineola ISD campuses and Alba Golden ISD campuses are routinely patrolled to continue to build a strong relationship with the students and teachers.

We assisted in apprehending a fugitive who had given our office a false name and had also given our game wardens a fake name. Because he was a wanted fugitive, additional charges were filed. He was apprehended at a residence on several local warrants and for a violation of parole warrant.

We continue to work with the local hotels and motels. This month we served a search warrant at one of our local hotels where K9 Juma was used to develop probable cause for an arrest.
