Republican voters in Wood County will have four locally contested races when they go to the polls for the March 5 primary.

Filing concluded on Monday, and there will be contests in two of the four constable precincts and both contested commissioner precincts.

Mayor Randy Dunn of Quitman added his name for Precinct One county commissioner, joining the incumbent, Virgil Jr. Holland, and Justin Bowring.

Incumbent Mike Simmons and David Eishen are the Republican candidates for Precinct Three Commissioner. Madeline Gibson filed for the position as a Democrat and will face the GOP winner in the general election in November 2024.

Incumbent constables Steve McQueen in Precinct Three and Chase Glover in Precinct Four have no opposition.

There will be new constables in Precincts One and Two as Steve Bowser and Kelly Smith did not seek reelection.

Candidates for Precinct One are LaDawn Foley-McGee and Robert Holland.

For Precinct Two constable, Joshua Davis, Bobby Tucker and Stephen Nichols have filed.

There will be a new county tax assessor-collector, as Carol Taylor did not seek another term. One of the chief deputy clerks in the office, Angie Lumen, is the only candidate for the post.

District Judge Brad McCampbell and Sheriff Kelly Cole drew no opposition for a second term.

Wood County Republican voters will also see three names on the ballot for state representative, including the incumbent, Cole Hefner, Jeff Fletcher of Mineola and Dewey Collier of Talco.

U.S. Rep. Lance Gooden of Terrell drew no primary opposition for reelection.
