QDC hears plans for Stitchin’ Heaven expansion
Quitman Development Corporation made quick work on a short agenda Monday night. Much of the agenda was discussion on upcoming activities.
Executive Director Denea Hudman reported Stitchin’ Heaven is ready to move forward with another phase in its building project.
“They (Stitchin’ Heaven) will be adding 13,000 square feet to their existing facility. They are also waiting the completion of plans for their retreat center and cabins,” Hudman said.
Hudman encouraged board members and all elected officials to attend Stitchin’ Heaven’s Grand Opening Event which will be Feb. 13-15. She said there will people from across the nation and a RSVP is needed for the VIP luncheon Feb. 13.
Quitman Mayor Randy Dunn has continued to get input on costs from the Friends of the Arboretum concerning mulching more of the vacant business park property and property behind Stitchin’ Heaven.
In her report, Hudman wrote about Quitman businesses which made the County Line Magazine’s “Best of the Upper East Side.” Making Honorable Mention were Judge Hunt’s BBQ, for best BBQ; Shops at 107 best for gift shop; and Country Kitchen for best breakfast. The Wood County Courthouse was named best courthouse.
The board discussed the Lake Country Classics Car Club efforts to start having monthly events downtown. The plan is to have the cars in the parking lot north of the county courthouse from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month in conjunction with the downtown merchants “Rollin’ Out the Sidewalk” promotions. The club expects up to 75 classic vehicles for each promotion. The QDC and City of Quitman will sponsor the first two events.
The board discussed “Fishing University,” a television fishing show to be aired on a few cable networks. The cost to the QDC would be $1,625. The board wants more information and took no action.
The board discussed the need for a QDC website which is not a part of the City of Quitman website. “Denea (Hudman) is going to get us at least three quotes. We will give them parameters on what we want,” Board President Martha Scroggins said.
After an executive session to discuss Hudman’s contract and compensation, no action was taken.
