Quitman board OKs school safety items
The Quitman school board approved ballistic film and safety fencing for various campus locations Monday, funded by state safety grants.
Door Control Services received the bid to install the bullet-resistant film for $62,103 while Precision Fence Co. bid $83,300 to add fencing on the back side of the junior-senior high.
Superintendent Chris Mason said the project will help the district meet state safety standards.
The district had a state safety survey March 30.
Mason said other recommendations include communications, visual barriers, training and plans to address potential issues with traffic on Hwy. 154 and nearby pipelines.
James Hicks and Vanessa Simpkins were sworn in as trustees.
Hicks replaces Jane Herring, who was absent. She drew numerous accolades from the public and fellow board members. She served more than 21 years.
