Quitman board reviews plans for district facilities
The Quitman ISD school board heard a presentation from Harris-Craig Architects concerning facility planning at Monday’s meeting.
The study gave a summary of immediate needs in facility improvements. At the elementary school those needs included creating additional parking, installing large shade structures over new playground equipment, replacing the metal roof over the third and fifth grade wing, creating access control at the main entrance and renovating reception.
At the junior high those needs included building an addition between classroom wings, art classroom, conference room, outdoor education classroom and ag classroom.
For the high school, classroom renovations, replacing flooring in CTE classrooms, updating culinary arts classroom, adding parking and band practice space, building a new gym, building a new baseball field next to the current softball complex and building a new CTE facility.
In future needs for the district, the study recommended moving fifth grade classes to a new location, building a new middle school and a new football stadium with an eight-lane track.
In other matters the board approved a staff development waiver. The board accepted a tax sale of $8,000. An inter-local agreement with Winona ISD for the services of Kelly Blalock was approved.
The board approved a memorandum of understanding between Quitman ISD, the Andrews Center and Wood County Central Hospital District.
The board approved a contract with Symmetry Sports for filming of athletic contests including all sports activities.
