Quitman chiropractor planning new facility

The Quitman business park could be getting a new tenant next year.

The Quitman Development Corp. (QDC) voted Monday to proceed with the potential sale of Lot 4, which is on the south side of Richards St. just west of the Quitman Square Apartments.

John and Joanne Wisdom addressed the QDC board about losing their lease for the Quitman Chiropractic Center at 606 E. Goode St.

John Wisdom said the news that two doctors were joining the practice apparently resulted in a determination that it was competition for the landlord and resulted in a cease and desist order.

He said Quitman Chiropractic would be leaving the location at the end of the year.

He expressed interest in Lot 4, adding that the business will be looking for temporary lease space for a year and working toward getting a facility placed into the business park sometime next year.

The QDC board reviewed the recent Texas Street Art Festival, which included the installation of two murals in Quitman, which the QDC helped to fund. They are on the west end of the Quitman Police Dept. and the east side of Dani’s Sidekick’s restaurant.

Board member Greg Eberhart said the murals looks really good, and the artists dinner hosted by Quitman went well.

He said the artists expressed a desire to return to Quitman, and some local businesses have shown interest in having murals.

He said that the sealer to preserve the murals has been purchased and applied.

The board agreed to spend $1,000 to help sponsor a Bassmasters fishing tournament when it returns to Lake Fork next spring.

The money will sponsor two buggies used to transport participants from the parking area to the tournament and festival grounds.

Board President Martha Scroggins remarked that the money will be staying in the community as it benefits the Pilot Club of Quitman, which helps host the festival.

Board members discussed ways to distribute 200 pairs of special eclipse glasses that the QDC received for its $1,000 donation to the project of the Rotary Clubs in Wood County to sponsor enough of the specialty glasses for the school children of the county.

They will be put to use for the first time Saturday, Oct. 14 and again on April 8. (See related story).
