She is the daughter of John and Kelee Tarno.

Joisalyn Tarno is the valedictorian for the Quitman High School 2023 graduating class.

She is the daughter of John and Kelee Tarno. She is president of National Honor Society, president of Key Club, first vice president of FFA, vice president of Student Council, vice president of One Act Play and secretary for the senior class.

She has received the 2022-23 College Board National Rural & Small Town Scholar Award. She has received her certification for artificial insemination in cattle, her certification in veterinary medical applications and will be sitting for her state board exam for certified veterinary assistant this month.

She graduated this month from Tyler Junior College with her associates degree summa cum laude and is the first to accomplish this from Quitman ISD. She will be attending Texas Tech University this fall, majoring in animal science with pre-veterinarian concentration.  She has also been accepted into their honors college.

She plans to be a large animal veterinarian working in rural communities.

Helena Bautista-Mathias is the class salutatorian.

She is a Healthy Texas Youth ambassador for the 4-H program and will be participating in the Texas 4-H Roundup competing in food show and food challenge along with the E-Lemon-ator team.

She has been a member of the 4-H horse club and has held numerous officer positions at the club level as well as Wood County 4-H Council.

She is the recipient of 4-H’s highest award, the Gold Star.

She received the Texas 4-H Foundation opportunity scholarship from the San Antonio Livestock Exposition for $20,000.

The class will graduate Friday, May 26 at 8 p.m. at Bud Moody Stadium.
