•Mineola will play in the area round of the Texas High School Football Playoffs against the Whitesboro Bearcats Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Greenville High School.

• Hope Haven of East Texas is hosting their 4th Annual Showcase of the Stars at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Love and War in Texas restaurant and concert venue. Tickets to the Showcase of Stars are $50 per person and can be purchased on the Hope Haven website hhofet.org.

• Allen Vizzutti will perform with the Tyler Junior College Jazz Ensemble in the annual East Texas Symphony Orchestra Jazz Spectacular set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Hall in downtown Tyler. See story inside for details.

• The East Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church family invites the public to their Annual Women’s Day celebration on Sunday. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and the guest speaker will be Minister Gatha Marsh of Carter Temple CME of Tyler.

• The next volunteer meeting for Mineola’s Caring & Sharing will be held Monday at St. Paul Missionary Baptist church at 6 p.m.

Special Olympics returns in style

After a five-year absence, over 150 athletes from Como-Pickton, Cedar Creek and Upshur and Wood Counties competed for special recognition at a state-sanctioned Special Olympics track and field meet at the Quitman High School track field on Friday, April 5.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
