The Friends of the Quitman Public Library Spring Book Sale will be held Tuesday, May 2 through Friday, May 5 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. in the library’s Thurman Shamburger Community Room. Proceeds go toward funding library programs, purchasing new materials, children’s summer reading and special projects throughout the year.

Friends of the Quitman Public Library has changed its meeting dates to 2nd Thursdays at noon. The final meeting for the FY23 season will be a potluck dinner on Thursday, May 11. Consider joining this active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.

360° Painting of Tyler has completed painting the exterior of the library. Special thanks to The Quitman Public Library Memorial Fund, Quitman Economic Development Corporation, City of Quitman and Michelle Davidson, owner of 360° Painting of Tyler, and Wade Frazier who provided the labor.

The Quitman Garden Club provides an amazing service keeping the library patios looking so beautiful. Most of the plants are native to Texas and many are in bloom. The club meets at 2 p.m. on the second Tuesday (except July and Aug.) at the library. Contact Jean Fox for more information 903-763-8353.

The school year may be winding down, but certified instructors are always available at the library to offer guidance to adults who need GED® exam support. Students register at www.ged.com. There is a monthly subscription on that website that must be paid for by each student to access the preparatory study questions.

Knitting and crochet instruction class is each Thursday from 2-4 p.m. in the lobby. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join this fun group for free instruction and pattern exchange.

Whyte Dove Writers’ Club meets monthly on second Tuesdays from 6-8:30 p.m. at the library. Consider joining this impressive group of local published authors.

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society invites family researchers and historians to meet on second Mondays at 7 p.m. at the library. Contact Shirley Patrick, 903-312-8451, for meeting confirmation and follow the society’s page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.

Wood County Metal Detector Club is all about metal detecting and historical research in Wood and surrounding counties. If interested in digging in the dirt and finding things, join the meeting on first Mondays at 6:30 p.m. at the library.

The In-Focus Photography Club of East Texas meets monthly on last Mondays in the library community room. Join the club and network with other photographers, share ideas and participate in photography-related contests and events. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the 6:30 p.m. meeting and workshop. 

Lost in the Woods Painters meet second Saturdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in January, March, May, July, September and November. Call 903-763-8353 for meeting confirmation.

Regular hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Call 903-763-4191. Library cards are available at no cost for those who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.
