Feb. 6

Corporal Austin Milbourn was notified that an older female had contacted the department because she needed food. Milbourn made arrangements with a local church to provide food. The woman refused to take help from that particular church due to it being Baptist. Milbourn took the woman a meal and contacted Adult Protective Services and advised them of the woman’s situation. 

Officer Corbin Hanner took a report of a vehicle burglary at the elementary school gym. Items worth approximately $2,250 were taken from the vehicle. This case is under investigation.

Officer Hanner took a report of a second vehicle burglary at the elementary school gym. The front passenger window was broken to allow access. Items worth approximately $200 were taken This case is under investigation.

Officer Hanner and Corporal Milbourn served a warrant on a resident of Oak Grove Road. Officers noted the strong smell of marijuana. CPS was contacted once it was discovered that marijuana was being smoked while children were present. The children were placed with their grandparents. 

Feb. 7

Corporal Milbourn responded to a residence on N. Winnsboro Street following a report by a neighbor of suspicious circumstances. According to the caller, she had noticed an open window on the back of an unoccupied home. A cat had been seen in the window as well. Milbourn, along with Pct. 1 Constable Steve Bowser, entered and secured it to the best of their ability. An attempt will be made to notify the owner. 

Feb. 11

Corporal Milbourn received a call from a woman who was concerned after receiving a suicidal text message from a friend. Milbourn and Lt. John Farmer responded to the suicidal woman’s residence and noticed cut marks on her arms. EMS was called and the woman was transported to the hospital for evaluation. CPS was called to ensure the safety of a child in the home. 

Feb. 12

Lt. Mike Chilson took a report of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle from a Quitman resident. The woman advised that she had a friend staying temporarily at her house. The woman stated that she noticed her friend and her car missing from her residence about 11:30 p.m. the night before. Lt. Chilson was able to recover the vehicle the following day. 

Feb. 18

Officer Hanner conducted a traffic stop in the area of Main St. and West Bermuda St. The traffic stop resulted in the arrest of 17-year-old Antonio Roberto Munoz of Jacksonville. Munoz was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon. He also had no driver’s license or insurance on the vehicle. A probable cause search netted over two grams of a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Feb. 24

Lt. John Farmer met with a woman who brought in a foil ball containing what she claimed was marijuana. According to the woman, she had taken the substance from a juvenile who was in her home the previous day. The marijuana was booked in as found property. The woman refused to give a voluntary statement as to when and where she obtained the marijuana.
