Quitman Police Report

The Quitman Police Dept. answered 140 calls for service between July 1-16. The department issued 55 traffic citations, gave 47 traffic warnings and took 10 reports. Officers made five warrant arrests and nine on-site arrests. 

 July 1

Officer Joseph Gatewood and Officer Victor Taylor were dispatched to the 200 block of Elm St. for a disturbance. Robert Asmussen Jr. was arrested for injury to the elderly family violence. 

July 2

Officer Cristian Gallegos and Sgt. John Cooper made a traffic stop in the 300 block of S. Main St. Allen Hawkins was arrested for driving while intoxicated, three charges of possession of dangerous drugs and a fictitious license.

July 3

Officer Jesus Sandoval met with Trenton Cook to release his dog back that had been picked up for running at large. Cook was found to have a warrant out of Harrison County for boating while intoxicated and he was arrested. 

July 4

Officer Sandoval made a traffic stop at the corner of Horton St. and Hart St. after observing a vehicle commit a traffic violation. Brianna Manley was arrested for driving while license invalid with a previous conviction.

July 10

Officer Gatewood  initiated a traffic stop in the 200 block of W. Bermuda St. after observing a vehicle commit a traffic violation. Mitchell McNatt was arrested for failure to maintain financial responsibility with a previous conviction. McNatt also had two city warrants for expired registration and failure to maintain financial responsibility.

July 13

Officer Sandoval was dispatched to the UT Health Quitman emergency room where Randel Clanton Jr. had been discharged and refused to leave the property. Clanton was arrested for criminal trespass and two city warrants for disorderly conduct and failure to appear.

Officer Sandoval stopped to check the welfare of a driver in the 300 block of W. Bermuda St. Sandoval could smell the strong odor of marijuana. Two small bags of marijuana and scales were located. Malique Cole was arrested for delivery of marijuana more than one-fourth ounce and less than five pounds.
