Quitman woman killed in residential fire
A fire at 260 County Road 2169 in the Clear Lakes area south of Quitman claimed the life of a Quitman woman on Thursday, Jan. 18.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Dept. reported receiving a call for a fire, and the caller reported his mother was still inside and he could not get her out.
Wood County fire marshal Tully Davidson said the structure included a recreational vehicle and an attached deck and tiny house.
Davidson said there was nothing suspicious about the fire and the cause was accidental.
Funeral services for Hazel Evans, 93, were held Saturday, Jan. 27 in Ore City with burial at Piney Cemetery in Harleton.
