A Quitman woman was killed in a two-vehicle collision the morning of Wednesday, April 3 just outside the Quitman city limits on State Hwy. 37 North.

According to the Dept. of Public Safety preliminary report, Carolyn Lee, 22, was a passenger in a 2018 Jeep being driven by her husband, Isaiah Lee.

Lee was northbound on Hwy. 37 at 6:15 a.m. some .21 of a mile north of Cedar Dr. when he pulled to the northbound shoulder.

Shane Riorden of Paris, Ark. was also northbound on Hwy. 37 in a Freightliner truck and trailer, following Lee.

Lee attempted a u-turn into the path of the truck-trailer when the collision occurred.

Lynn Burks-Lee died at the scene, and Isaiah Lee was taken to UT Health Tyler in critical condition. Their infant daughter, Opal, did not suffer serious injuries.

Services for Lee are pending with Lowe Gardner Funeral Home in Quitman.

A GoFundMe account has been established by the family to assist with funeral expenses.

The crash was investigated by State Trooper John Hefner.
