Rains blanks Lady Bulldogs on no-hitter
Rains Lady Wildcat hurler Chanlee Oakes tossed a no-hitter March 26 against the visiting Quitman Lady Bulldogs. Oakes faced only 15 hitters and struck out 10 in five innings. Rains defeated Quitman 10-0.
The Lady Bulldogs simply had no answer for Oakes, who threw a stellar game. While Quitman’s starter Alexis O’Neal only gave up five hits, a multitude of Quitman fielding errors doomed the Lady Bulldogs.
Quitman fielding errors figured in all of the Rains scoring. Rains scored in the first, second and fourth innings, and each rally was aided by Lady Bulldog mistakes.
The night belonged to Oakes who accomplished the ultimate feat for a pitcher, the no-hitter.
