Reunion will go on despite pavilion

Yes, there will be a Wood County Old Settlers Reunion at Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman Aug. 3, 4 and 5.

There will be a 122nd Old Settlers Reunion despite an unfinished pavilion at the park. It had been hoped the rebuilding of the pavilion would be complete in time for the reunion, but some of the materials have been back-logged.

The Old Settlers Board met Monday night to make final plans. This year the stage for entertainment purposes will be on the south side porch of the Honeymoon Cottage.

On Thursday, Dale “The C” Cummings will bring back his rock n’ roll oldies show to open the reunion. Friday night will feature the exciting musical experience of Rafael Espinoza and Rock-a-Billy Railroad. Espinosa is a Wood County native and has won numerous prestigious awards for his guitar playing.

Saturday night will be the annual “Meet the Bulldogs” night where football, volleyball, cross country and cheerleaders will be introduced along with the Proud Blue Band.

The midway will be in operation, once again on the front parking lot of the park. The chamber of commerce will host a cornhole tournament Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. while Quitman Lake Fork Kiwanis Club will host bingo all three nights from 6:45 p.m.
