The District 12-3A girls basketball head coaches unanimously selected Mineola’s Sabria Dean as the 2018-19 Most Valuable Player. The coaches selected Edgewood’s Katie Pool as Offensive MVP and Alba-Golden’s Ashlyn Rogers as Defensive MVP. Newcomer of the Year went to Edgewood sophomore Jacie Elliott, while Lone Oak’s Marissa Hubbard, a freshman, was named as Sixth Man of the Year.
First Team All-District honors were awarded to Alba-Golden’s Grace Bizzell, Ginny Carson and Macie Pendergrass; Edgewood’s Tabby Parker, Addi Prater, Keely Randle and Kenzie Smith; Grand Saline’s Brooklyn Bolin and Payton Stanley; Lone Oak’s Jenna Fortenberry, Maddie Moser and Ashleigh Norman; Mineola’s Tahjae Black, Cyndi Butler and Jessiah Riley; Quitman’s Ava Burroughs and Madalyn Spears; and Rains’ Chanlee Oakes and Leo Terry.
Second Team All-District honors were earned by Alba-Golden’s Sammy Rambsel; Edgewood’s Claire James; Grand Saline’s Sarah Elliott and J’Cea Melton; Lone Oak’s Madison Burchett and Kalie Dunavant; Mineola’s Kelsey Brewington, Meghan Brewington and Tiara Stephens; Quitman’s Lucy Brannon and Madalynn Whitehurst; and Rains’ McKenna Hildebrandt and Jaylee Sims.
The 2018-19 season was memorable for some extremely competitive games, amazing individual skill and excellent team play. As Alba-Golden Head Coach Blake Hamrick offered: “There were some good teams from our district that didn’t make the playoffs, and that just shows how competitive it was…you had to show up every single night ready to play.”
