Santa makes annual visit to museum

Santa and a few of his elves made a visit to Mineola last weekend. For more than 36 years, Jolly St. Nick has been found right around Christmastime in his Little Red House, located behind the Mineola Historical Museum. The event is decorated and run by a host of volunteers each year.

Santa’s Little Red House began as the heart-project of Zeb and Louise Love. These Mineoleans tirelessly spent time and money every Christmas on collecting and distributing toys to underprivileged children. Zeb even dressed up as Santa Claus in order to make the kids’ experience magical.

After Zeb retired from  being Santa in 2007, a hand-picked new Santa took over. No one can say for sure how much time and effort the local Santa donates to this selfless cause, but those who know Kris Kringle can say with confidence that being Santa is one of his favorite things to do every year.

Santa’s Little Red House is stocked wall-to-wall with toys of every kind, which are ready to be given away to each child who comes to visit. The display is also beautiful to drive through at night.
