Texas Master Naturalist’s Program on Forest Restoration
The East Texas Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist will meet Thursday, January 22nd, for its regular monthly meeting. Kay Jenkins, Texas Parks and Wildlife's Region 6 Natural Resources Coordinator, will present the program entitled "Restoration and Management of Forest Communities in Tyler State Park for Natural Biodiversity." The meeting will be held in The Nature Center at 11942 FM 848, Tyler, TX 75707. The meeting begins at 6:45 pm. The program will start at 7:00 p.m.
The forests of Tyler State Park are mature pine-oak communities, typical of the Pineywoods Ecoregion. Texas Parks and Wildlife
Department has implemented restoration and management activities including thinning and controlled burns for the past 15 years to facilitate the restoration of the communities to conditions that existed prior to Euro-American settlements. Ms. Jenkins will present a program describing the forest restoration and management activities conducted in Tyler State Park and the results and importance of these activities for conserving the natural biodiversity of East Texas vegetation communities.
The East Texas Chapter Master Naturalist is one of 42 Texas Master Naturalist chapters throughout the state.
