Stargazing planned at Nature Preserve

The Mineola Nature Preserve and the Astronomical Society of East Texas will put on a StarGazing at the preserve on Friday, June 16.

This will be celestial stargazing at the amphitheater beginning around 9:30 p.m. Please arrive by about 8:30 to get acquainted with the surroundings. It should conclude around 11 p.m. This is a naked eye observing so there will be no telescopes.

Watch the weather on that day. Should clouds form or inclement weather develop, the event will be canceled. That being the case, a cancellation announcement notice will be posted on the website, Astronomical Society of East Texas, and Facebook page of the same name. There will also be a NO STARGAZING sign at the main preserve gate or call 903-520-7338 or email astroetexas@gmail.com.

Be aware that the temperature may be warm and that there has been rain lately. Participants may bring wipe type mosquito repellent but not the aerosol type.

At the end there will be door prizes given away, so plan on staying to the end.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
